Naomi Plant: From NAIG 2017 to Aquinas Saints College

Naomi Plant played for the North American Indigenous Games in 2014 for swimming and in 2017 playing box lacrosse. As an athlete who actually did not grow up playing box lacrosse, Naomi picked up the game quickly due to her experience playing girls field lacrosse with her highschool. From there, the rest is history.

When Naomi came to Team BC tryouts in January 21, 2017, she worked hard and become one of 20 athletes to play in the first ever female box lacrosse category at NAIG and bring home a bronze medal. She is part of an amazing alumnae who brought box lacrosse to NAIG and opened the doors for other Indigenous female athletes.

In 2017, Naomi was recruited and signed her letter of intent to play for Aquinas College in Michigan. In September 2017, she joined the Saints and as #30 Attack, and in her freshman year, played in 16 games, accummulated 20 goals and 6 assists for total points of 26. Under Coach Geri Merrell, Naomi had an amazing year. In her sophomore year, Naomi played in 15 games, accumulated 17 goals and 14 assists for total points of 31. Under Coach Angelico Gero, Naomi looks forward to playing her Junior year in 2020-21.

Storm Lacrosse Team is proud of Naomi's accomplishments. She is an alumni of our program. She played with the team in the inaugural Nations Lacrosse Tournament May 10-13, 2018 and continues to profile the value of culture and raise the importance of women in sport.

Naomi loves lacrosse but also loves to help others. In her second year at Aquinas, Naomi was selected as part of a service-learning group to spend a week working alongside Dr. Angel Valdez and Jessica Carlisle with the Marian Foundation in Domenican Republic October 19-21, 2018. For one week, her group helped in medical clinics, spent time with children and assisted the poor living along the Haitian/Domenican border. Through her participation with this group, Naomi supplemented her classroom learning with real experience.

Naomi's goal is to go to medical school and become a doctor. A member of the Nlakapamux/Salish/ and Ojibway Nations, we support her every step of the way.
